To our valued volunteers...

Thank you for joining Girl Scouts of Woodland Council for another year of fun, friendship, and great opportunities while working together to help girls our grow strong! A special welcome to our new volunteers - we hope your experience with Girl Scouts is as rewarding for you as it is for the girls you work with.

In order for the Girl Scouts of Woodland Council help girls grow, we need volunteers who are growing themselves. Therefore, we are committed to the development of adults as well as girls. The council Adult Development Team supports personal, professional and organizational growth by providing educational opportunities that expand and enhance individual knowledge, skills, performance and self-esteem.

Learning opportunities are available to all volunteers - women and men, leaders and assistant leaders, troop helpers and parents. Examples of sessions offered include basic leadership, troop management, outdoor education, First-Aid and CPR, and various enrichment topics, including time management skills, dealing with difficult behavior, self-esteem, stress management, scrapbooking, crafts, etc. Volunteers who complete several hours of training can earn recognition for their achievements.

For new leaders, the required basic leadership courses, "Step One: Getting Your Troop Started: Orientation Training for New Girl Scout Leaders" and “Step Two: Girl Scout Program Basics Training for New Girl Scout Leaders”, and then "Step Three" which is training for the particular program age level you'll be working with. Troop management and enrichment courses, covering topics such as useful methods to encourage positive behavior and age-appropriate Girl Scout games and activities, are encouraged.

Each troop must also have a qualified “First-Aider” to go on a trip or do a strenuous activity. To qualify, a registered adult member will need to complete First Aid and CPR training.

For troops who wish to go on overnight trips and camping excursions, one adult member of the troop must be certified through GSWC's Outdoor Training sequence. To camp at our council-owned camp, Camp Sacajawea, a brief orientation is all that is required.

If you have any questions about any aspect of volunteer development & training, please contact us at the Service Center!
