Who We Are

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.

Girl Scouts of Woodland Council, Inc. is a not-for-profit, charitable organization offering programming that teaches life skills to girls ages 5 - 17. These valuable life skills are based on the Four Program Goals of Girl Scouts of the USA.

Girl Scouts of Woodland Council serves more than 3,000 girls in a nine-county area in central Wisconsin: Adams, Green Lake, Juneau, Marquette, Portage, Waushara, Wood, and portions of Clark and Fond du Lac counties. More than 600 adult volunteers and 14 paid staff members work together to provide services and deliver the program to the girls. A volunteer board of directors governs the council. Woodland Council is funded through product sales programs, allocations from five United Ways, and contributions from businesses, corporations, and individuals.

In addition:

  • We are a membership organization open to any girl or adult who makes the Girl Scout Promise and accepts the Girl Scout Law.
  • We are a primarily volunteer-run organization, with 98% of our adult members as volunteers.
  • Our programs and activities are open to members, regardless of ability to pay. Financial grants are available to both girls and adults
  • Girl Scouts of Woodland Council, Inc. been providing Girl Scouting in central Wisconsin for 65 years.
  • We are one of 315 Girl Scout Councils in the United States and a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, which has a presence in 140 countries worldwide.
  • We currently serve more than 3,000 girls, ages 5-17. Throughout our years of service, we have positively impacted the lives of thousands of girls.
  • The council is divided into four associations, each with a number of elected delegates based on girl membership. Delegates attend the annual meeting to elect and give input to the board of directors. This democratic process ensures all membership is heard and represented in council decisions and plans.
  • Council properties include Camp Sacajawea, which is home to the GSWC Service Center. We also collaborate with Girl Scout councils throughout Wisconsin to offer enhanced summer camp programming for teen girls. View the Adventure Seekers Web site here.

The Promise and Law express the enduring ethical values and spiritual force of the Girl Scout movement.

The Girl Scout Promise

On My honor, I will try:

To serve God and my country

To help people at all times,

And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

The Girl Scout Law

I will do my best to be

honest and fair,

friendly and helpful,

considerate and caring,

courageous and strong, and

responsible for what I say and do,

and to

respect myself and others,

respect authority,

use resources wisely,

make the world a better place, and

be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Program:  We have many year-round program opportunities, troop camping, area events, and a variety of council-sponsored activities which enhance our complete Girl Scout program. Such activities include trips, outdoor program activities, council-wide events and educational activities and workshops. Click here for more information about our programs. Click here for our current events calendar.

Membership:  Girl Scouts of Woodland Council serves approximately 3,000 girl members in four program age levels:

  • Daisy Girl Scouts- age 5-6 (grades K-1)
  • Brownie Girl Scouts- ages 6-8 (grades 1-3)
  • Junior Girl Scouts- ages 8-11 (grades 3-6)
  • Girl Scouts 11-17 - ages 11-17 (grades 6-12)

We also have over 700 adult volunteers supporting the activities of the girls. The majority of these volunteers are troop leaders and assistant leaders who meet with the girls on a regular basis throughout the school year. Other volunteers include committee members, trainers, service unit members, school organizers and members of the Board of Directors. Girl Scouts of Woodland Council is dedicated to providing equal access to membership for all girls and adults.

Structure:  Woodland Council is divided into nine service areas, called Service Units. Within those areas, we have more than 370 organized troops plus 52 individual girl members (now called Juliettes). These areas are coordinated by a volunteer group called a service unit. Each unit works with a professional staff member called a Membership Specialist. Click here to learn more about our Service Units.

Council Property/Program Site :  Woodland’s Service Center is located at the edge of Wisconsin Rapids. This site also includes Camp Sacajawea (click here for more information about camp). The camp is 60 beautifully forested acres and includes three heated buildings, a heated shower hall, a building for arts, crafts and nature activities, ten cabins, a summer kitchen, four platform tents, a cross-country ski trail, Lake Tapawingo, a storage building, and the service center--which houses staff offices as well as the council store. Throughout our facilities, girls can take advantage of the beautiful outdoors, enjoy cross-country skiing, canoeing, and many other activities.  We are proud of all we have to offer and welcome the general public and various outside groups.  Please contact Amy Schultz at the Service Center prior to your planned visit for more information on how our facilities can be used by your group!
