Greetings!
|
It's great to be a Girl Scout volunteer!
Girl Scouting provides
benefits to parents and volunteers involved in the program as much as the
girls. An independent study* surveyed
more than 2,000 parents and 544 Girl Scout volunteers, and the data show that
the majority of volunteers benefit personally. In fact:
- 88% feel they develop leadership and
other skills they otherwise would not have developed.
- 74% find that their self-confidence has
grown.
- 85% report they receive rewards they
don't typically get in their daily lives.
- 95% feel they have a positive influence
on the development of girls.
- 76% say they are building friendships
with other adults.
- 97% enjoy the opportunity to give back
to their community.
Through the
delivery of Girl Scout enrichment programs, volunteers have quality time with
their daughters, granddaughters, nieces, etc., and make a difference in the lives of girls. Here is what one Girl Scout leader and her
daughter say about the Girl Scout program:
"Some reasons we
enjoy Girl Scouting are being together, meeting new people, sharing dreams and
ideas, enjoying the world around us in a hands on way, and creating memories
that last a lifetime. Together, we have
discovered that Girl Scouting is not just about crafts -- but learning how to
live in the world of today and tomorrow.
We feel Girl Scouting is the best gift you can give -- it's a gift that
lasts a lifetime."
"As a Cadette Girl
Scout, the leadership and knowledge that I have gained from my mom and others
is a great gift that I can share with younger Girl Scouts. I really enjoy
sharing my knowledge about campfires, songs, crafts and what it means to be a
sister to every Girl Scout with other girls and adult volunteers, but most of
all I enjoy the knowledge they share with me."
Parents and
families also profit significantly from their daughters' involvement in Girl
Scouting, even if the parent may not be the troop leader. When a parent and child have the chance to be
involved in a project that benefits the community, the two can bond with a
sense of personal satisfaction for achieving a goal together. Of the parents polled, 54% say they spend
more quality time with their daughter because of Girl Scouting and 50% report
relationships with their daughter improved. This statistic is significant
because study after study has shown that a stronger parent/child bond means a
stronger child -- emotionally, socially and academically.
In 1912, Juliette
Gordon Low had a vision to help girls develop a sense of responsibility, commit
themselves to the highest ideals to live by, and foster teamwork so that they
could learn to assist one another.Today
that vision continues to connect girls, parents and volunteers to their dreams for more opportunities
to tap their skills, to succeed in their lives, and to
enrich their relationships with friends, families and their communities. According to Marian Wright Edelman, Founder of
the Children's Defense Fund, "Girl Scouting is helping
our country become number one in moral leadership and in
the investment of our children by providing networks of
concerned adults."
Girl Scouts of Woodland Council has a long
history of designing and implementing enrichment
opportunities for girls
in our community. Since 1939, dedicated
professional staff and community volunteers have worked
together to make a difference in the
lives of girls throughout central Wisconsin.

Cookie Program Tips & Reminders Tips for success from our top "Goal Getters" - Increase community awareness of the cookie program by: hanging posters and flyers in local businesses, libraries, youth centers, etc.; ask businesses with outside marquees and signs if they will post a message about the cookie program; make flyers with leaders' or parents' names and numbers, description of cookies, dates, cost, etc. and pass them out at local shopping centers, apartment complexes, colleges or post them on car windshields in parking lots.
- Use your order card from last year. Customers will be impressed if you call them by name and remember their favorite flavors!
- Remember to go back to the houses where no one was home the first time.
